Event Background
The idea of the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum was birthed when a delegation from the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) paid an official visit to Barbados from September 27-30, 2021. That visit came on the heels of the inaugural Africa/CARICOM Summit which was hosted on September 7, 2021. Attending that virtual Summit were Heads of States and Governments of CARICOM and the African Union, chairs of CARICOM and the African Union Commission, the Africa Regional Economic Communities, the Secretaries General of CARICOM and the Organization of the African Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), and the President of the Caribbean Development Bank.
During that four-day visit, the Government of Barbados and Afreximbank identified the 2022 AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum as a key strategic activity towards institutionalizing the engagement between both regions' private sectors to advance trade and investment relations. That idea will become a reality from September 1-3, 2022 at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre in Barbados. The AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum is being organized by Afreximbank, Export Barbados (BIDC) and Invest Barbados.
